Below are some frequently asked questions about Family Weekends at the University of Oregon. If you have additional questions, please contact Parent and Family Programs at myduckis@uoregon.edu or 541-346-3234.
What happens during Family Weekend?
There are a variety of activities offered during the designated weekends. Popular events have included Craft Center classes, featured lectures, theater performances, athletic competitions, and access to the variety of museums on the UO campus.
Why should we attend Family Weekend?
This is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with your student and for them to share with you what they enjoy about their new home. The weekend also includes opportunities to access locations without an entrance fee such as the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural and Cultural History, and the Student Recreation Center.
When does registration open?
Registration typically opens a month prior to the designated weekend.
Is there a cost to attend Family Weekends?
No, most activities during Fall or Spring Family Weekend are free with your Parent and Family Weekend button. However, some events require advance registration and/or have an associated fee. Please also be aware that some events can sell out quickly due to space limitations.
What day should we arrive? When do events begin?
Events begin midday on Friday. Some events only happen on Friday, such as Duck into a Class. Duck athletic events are the highlight of the Saturday schedule during both fall and spring family weekends.
Where should I stay?
Busy event weekends tend to sell out hotel space quickly. Please consider widening your search to the surrounding communities of Springfield, Cottage Grove, or Albany/Corvallis. These locations are within 15 to 45 minutes from campus.
Our partners at Travel Lane County list lodging options on their Eugene, Cascades, and Coast website.
Where should we park?
The UO has two garages that allow hourly parking, the 13th Avenue Garage and the Millrace Garage. Located beneath the Ford Alumni Center, the 13th Avenue Garage is accessed from East 13th Avenue and is the easiest place for visitors to find parking close to the center of campus. The Millrace Garage is located on the corner of Riverfront Parkway and Millrace Drive, north of the Knight Campus, and is approximately a 6-minute walk from campus. Both locations can be found on the UO map.
